A woman is charged after an investigation into the death of a 1-year-old girl in New Castle.
Twenty-year-old Aleisia Owens is facing charges more than six months after the death of Iris Alfera. Owens is the girlfriend of Iris’ father.
It was back in June when the toddler was brought to UPMC Jameson. From UPMC Jameson, Iris was taken by ambulance to UPMC Children’s Hospital, where she later died.
Court paperwork obtained by Pittsburgh’s Action News 4 details disturbing allegations that police say led to Iris’ death.
Police said the child died as a result of acetone poisoning, which caused organ failure.
The investigation led to the search of Owens’ phone, which allegedly contained past web searches for poison, acetone, water beads, button batteries and medication poisoning. Owens also allegedly searched for “water beads near me,” “what happens when someone drinks acetone,” “poisoniness [sic] products to babies,” and “medications leading to cause accidental poisoning deaths in children.”
